Since the official opening of fantasy baseball mocks on Dec. 3, 2007, Mock Draft Central users have participated in a record-smashing number of practice drafts. This past week has been sizzling hot, with full mock drafts running at all times of the day. Every Friday, The Mock Market Report will highlight the biggest movers and shakers from hundreds of completed drafts.
After a 2 percent increase in value last week, the Average Draft Position (ADP) of St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols plummeted again this week amidst rumors the star slugger may need Tommy John surgery to fix his ailing elbow. The 2005 National League Most Valuable Player has lost 13.6 percent of his value over the last seven days, falling behind Colorado Rockies outfielder Matt Holliday and Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins to No. 7 overall in the MDC ADP.
Not surprisingly, the value of Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Yovani Gallardo has taken a hit since news broke the stud right-hander will likely start the season on the disabled list after surgery to repair torn cartilage in his knee. The youngster has lost 7.5 percent and nearly an entire round off his post-operation ADP.
The news out of spring camp has been positive on Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Randy Johnson; as a result, the veteran lefty has seen an 8.7 percent increase in his value. The Big Unit currently ranks as the 56th starting pitcher selected in mocks with an ADP of 238.08.
Moving from middle relief in Seattle to the favorite to close in Baltimore has helped the value of newly acquired Orioles pitcher George Sherrill. The 30-year-old southpaw has seen a 14.9 percent increase in his value over the last week; 36.2 percent overall since the East-West swap was completed.
Updating last week`s report: The upward momentum continues for Boston Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz and Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Brandon Lyon. Over the last seven days, Buchholz added 8 percent of value onto his ADP while Lyon gained a modest 5.8 percent. ... Meanwhile Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim pitcher Kelvim Escobar and Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling continue to fall faster than chunks of blown up spy satellite. With no positive news regarding his injured shoulder, Escobar lost another 10.4 percent of his value this past week, dropping at or below 11th-round levels in most drafts. Schilling, also dealing with an injured shoulder, fell another 11.6 percent, knocking the veteran out of the top-300 players selected.
