The Mock Market Report

by Geoffrey Stein on February 29 2008
Since the official opening of fantasy baseball mocks on Dec. 3, 2007, Mock Draft Central users have participated in a record-smashing number of practice drafts. This past week has been sizzling hot, with full mock drafts running at all times of the day. Every Friday, The Mock Market Report will highlight the biggest movers and shakers from hundreds of completed drafts.

The value of Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Corey Hart is on the rise with the second-year star gaining 7.1 percent on his Average Draft Position (ADP), moving him into the top-60 players selected. The do-everything 25-year-old has been especially popular with the high stakes crowd, as he ranks as the 43rd overall player drafted in the first 11 league drafts held by the National Fantasy Baseball Championship (NFBC).

Another five-tool youngster seeing a rise in value: Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp. The 23-year-old has moved up 8.6 percent over the last seven days with his earliest selection being 60th overall. He is also a favorite of the NFBC drafters, ranking as the 93rd player drafted.

Some positive press this past week has led to a 10.6 percent increase in value for Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton. The No. 1 overall pick of the 1999 Major League Baseball amateur draft has gone as early as 105th overall. My best advice: if you want him, don`t be afraid to grab him well before his ADP.

Scheduled to be on the shelf for up to six weeks after knee surgery, it`s no surprise that Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Brad Lidge is falling down draft boards. The projected closer of the defending National League East champions has lost 10.5 percent of his value, falling behind fellow door-slammers Chad Cordero, Rafael Soriano, Jason Isringhausen and Matt Capps in ADP. ... On the flipside, Tom Gordon -- Lidge`s fill-in -- has developed a fantasy pulse. The veteran closer has gone as early as 224th overall in recent mocks.

A few other players starting to show up on drafted lists for the first time: Oakland A`s pitcher Justin Duchscherer, Washington Nationals first baseman Nick Johnson and Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Andrew Sonnanstine.

This has been The Mock Market Report for Friday, Feb. 29, 2008. Be sure to check back next week for the latest movers and shakers in the fantasy baseball world.
