Since the official opening of fantasy baseball mocks on Dec. 3, 2007, Mock Draft Central users have participated in a record-smashing number of practice drafts. This past week has been sizzling hot, with full mock drafts running at all times of the day. Every Friday, The Mock Market Report will highlight the biggest movers and shakers from hundreds of completed drafts.
The latest on St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols: he`s still dropping. After losing another 14.9 percent of value this week, the slugger no longer ranks as the top first baseman on MDC`s Average Draft Position (ADP) report -- that honor now belongs to Ryan Howard of the Philadelphia Phillies. Also keep an eye on a pair of Milwaukee Brewers, first baseman Prince Fielder and third baseman Ryan Braun, who are within five-tenths of a point of passing Pujols in ADP.
A quick update from last week: After minimal movement in value upon signing with the Cincinnati Reds, outfielder Corey Patterson has seen a 10 percent increase in ADP over the last seven days.
Though he`s gone unnoticed for most of the mock drafting season, the word is starting to get out on Washington Nationals outfielder Lastings Milledge as the one-time must-have prospect gained nearly 20 picks on his ADP this week. Overall, the 22-year-old has seen an 11.5 percent increase in value since March 1.
Finding their way onto cheat sheets and debuting on the ADP report this week: Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Nomar Garciaparra, Atlanta Braves pitcher Jair Jurrjens, Cleveland Indians pitcher Masahide Kobayashi and a pair of Brewers pitchers, Manny Parra and Carlos Villanueva.
Kobayashi isn`t the only Japanese import starting to show up at the end of drafts. With C.J. Wilson and Joaquin Benoit dealing with spring injuries, many are looking at Texas Rangers pitcher Kazuo Fukumori as a potential source of cheap saves. The 31-year-old has been drafted as high as 288th overall in recent 15-team league drafts held at MDC.
A few others showing up at the end of deeper drafts: Seattle Mariners outfielder Wladimir Balentien, Chicago White Sox pitcher Gavin Floyd and Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Nyjer Morgan.
This has been The Mock Market Report for Friday, March 14, 2008. Be sure to check back next week for the latest movers and shakers in the fantasy baseball world.
