Since the official opening of Fantasy Football mocks on April 28, Mock Draft Central users have participated in a record-smashing number of practice drafts. The month was sizzling hot, with full mock drafts running at all times of the day.
Today, we`ll focus on recent newsmakers and the impact their headlines have had on drafts.
Not surprisingly, the release of Cedric Benson has put an end to the small amount of value the former No. 4 pick had while he was employed. Not a big deal considering Benson often times lasted to the double-digit rounds of drafts.
The big news coming from the release, however, is the bump in value to running back Matt Forte, as the rookie now looks to be receiving the majority of the carries in the Windy City.
Fantasy Footballers preferred Forte to Benson prior to Monday`s news with the second-round pick from April`s draft leaving the board sometime in Round 7 or 8.
Benson packing his bags has helped Forte`s value even more, as the Tulane product has been a fifth-round selection in the majority of mocks completed this week. Overall, he has seen a 36.9 percent increase in his MDC Average Draft Position (ADP).
The Bears No. 2 running back, Adrian Peterson, has also seen an increase in value, making his 2008 ADP debut at 193rd overall.
Joining Forte at fifth-round levels is Selvin Young of the Denver Broncos.
The release of Travis Henry, plus positive words from head coach Mike Shanahan has many mockers thinking that Young is the next great Broncos runner. He has been selected as high as 40th overall with an astounding 91 percent increase in ADP over the last two weeks.
Other drafters have turned their attention to a pair of potential running back sleepers on the Denver roster: rookie Ryan Torain and veteran Michael Pittman. Both have developed a fantasy pulse that has at least one of them going in the later rounds of mocks with an ADP increase of 8.5 percent for Torain and 8.6 percent for Pittman.
With no good news in site regarding Buffalo Bills running back Marshawn Lynch`s alleged involvement in a hit-and-run accident, it`s almost surprising that his ADP has only fallen 10.2 percent this week. He remains the 15th player selected in mocks.
Despite Lynch`s declining value, his backups, Fred Jackson and Dwayne Wright, haven`t received a bump up cheatsheets. Neither runner has been selected enough to even show on the ADP report.
