The Mock Market Report

by Geoffrey Stein on July 25 2008
Since the official opening of Fantasy Football mocks on April 28, Mock Draft Central (MDC) users have participated in a record-smashing number of practice drafts. This past week was sizzling hot, with full mock drafts running at all times of the day.

From a fantasy perspective, this week`s biggest news was the trade of tight end Jeremy Shockey to the New Orleans Saints.

Not surprisingly, Fantasy Footballers have taken kindly to Shockey`s move to the Big Easy, as the sometimes volatile pass-catcher added 10 selections to his Average Draft Position (ADP) in the days after the trade. The 11.3 percent increase in value moved him up to the 84th player selected.

Adding another weapon to an already loaded offense has helped the ADP of Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who gained 4.3 percent of value this week. Brees remains the No. 3 player selected at his position, but is inching closer to cracking the top-30 overall selections.

It shouldn`t come as a surprise that Shockey`s replacement in New York, Giants tight end Kevin Boss, reappears on the ADP report after a month of inactivity. Boss` ADP currently sits at 200.13, making him the 20th tight end selected. Be ready to move on him, though, as the second-year stud has been drafted as high as 135th overall.

Chicago Bears running back Kevin Jones continues his climb up draft boards, cracking the top-100 players selected. The dinged up runner has gained a whopping 37.2 percent of value since signing with the Bears. The three-round jump still hasn`t had an impact on rookie running back Matt Forte whose ADP currently sits at 64.82.

Hamstring surgery that will cost him most of training camp and the preseason has crippled the value of Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Jerry Porter, a one-time sleeper for many. While it appears Porter will be ready for Week 1, drafters aren`t willing to gamble on a receiver with leg issues, as the veteran wide out has last nearly two rounds off his ADP, falling to 131st overall.

This has been The Mock Market Report for Friday, July 25 2008.
