The Mock Market Report

by Geoffrey Stein on August 22 2008
Since the official opening of Fantasy Football mocks on April 28, Mock Draft Central (MDC) users have participated in a record-smashing number of practice drafts. This past week was sizzling hot, with full mock drafts running at all times of the day.

This week`s biggest mover: Cincinnati Bengals running back Chris Perry.

Perry, who didn`t show on MDC`s ADP report as recently as two weeks ago, received a 43.2 percent bump after continued preseason success and reports that he`d be the starter in Cincinnati if the season were to start today. He currently sits as the 132nd player selected.

As a result, drafters are downgrading Bengals running back Rudi Johnson, who lost 9 percent of his value during Perry`s charge up cheat sheets.

Johnson`s ADP currently sits at 62.42, but league drafts held on Thursday and Friday suggest the floor is about to give out.

It was an interesting week for the value of Miami Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown.

With questions surrounding his health and place on the Dolphins` depth chart, many drafters bumped Brown down their cheat sheets, evidenced by his 10.5 percent decrease in Average Draft Position (ADP).

The real gauge of how crazy things are, however, is Brown`s draft range.

In MDC`s Monday expert draft, Brown left the board with the final selection of Round 2. On the flip side, Brown lasted until the 75th selection of a 12-team high stakes league draft held on Thursday.

At this point, the only thing certain about Brown is uncertainty on where he`s going to be selected.

Brown`s backfield mate, Dolphins running back Ricky Williams, continues his climb up draft boards after gaining another 16.2 percent of value. His ADP of 90.51 makes him the 87th player selected.

Detroit Lions wide receiver Roy Williams is no longer the preferred pass-catcher in Motown, as Fantasy Footballers have taken a liking to wide receiver Calvin Johnson, who skyrocketed up draft boards after a stellar preseason performance and positive press.

Johnson`s 14.3 percent increase in value bumped the second-year pro up to the 47th player selected, three spots ahead of Williams, whose ADP sits at 48.38.

After shedding nearly 10 selections off his ADP over the past two weeks, Johnson is the hottest fantasy wide receiver entering August`s final week.

If it weren`t for Johnson, that title would belong to Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson.

Injuries to Eagles wide receivers Kevin Curtis and Reggie Brown, as well as a seven-catch performance on National Television opened the eyes of many drafters to Jackson, Philadelphia`s second-round selection in April, who added 12.5 percent of value this week.

Jackson`s 177.98 ADP makes him the 57th wide receiver selected.

Another rookie wide receiver working his way up cheat sheets: Josh Morgan of the San Francisco 49ers, who makes his ADP report debut at 218th overall.

Others making their ADP report debuts: Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio Bryant, Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington and Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Courtney Taylor.

This has been The Mock Market Report for Friday, Aug. 22, 2008.
