The Mock Market Report

Since the official opening of Fantasy Baseball mocks on Dec. 15, 2008, Mock Draft Central (MDC) users have participated in a record-smashing number of practice drafts.

This past week was sizzling hot, with full mock drafts running at all times of the day. Every Friday, The Mock Market Report will highlight the biggest movers and shakers from hundreds of this week`s completed drafts.

The value of Los Angeles Angels P John Lackey has taken a sharp turn south after news that the ace is likely to miss at least the first month of the season with an elbow injury.

A 17.3 percent drop in Average Draft Position (ADP) has knocked Lackey down to the 113th player selected, two spots behind fellow hurting Angels P Ervin Santana.

Other dinged up Ps falling down draft boards: Scott Baker of the Minnesota Twins and B.J. Ryan of the Toronto Blue Jays.

Not surprisingly, the value of Chicago Cubs P Kevin Gregg has skyrocketed since he was named closer of the Northsiders over Carlos Marmol.

A 38.7 percent increase has moved Gregg into the top-250 players selected, though he`s still one of the last closers to leave the board.

Drafters obviously don`t have the most confidence in Gregg`s door-slamming abilities as Marmol`s ADP remains earlier, even after a 28.1 percent decrease.

Making their ADP report debuts this week: New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner, who`s locked up a starting job in the Bronx, and Milwaukee Brewers P Carlos Villanueva, who will be getting the early saves with P Trevor Hoffman on the DL.

A few youngsters -- who are sneaking their way into the backend of late-week drafts -- to remember for those drafting this weekend: St. Louis Cardinals 3B David Freese and Detroit Tigers P Ryan Perry. Both have won spots with the big league club, and both have the potential to be useful players in deeper leagues.

This has been The Mock Market Report for Friday, April 3, 2009.
